Young Liberals of Canada call on MPs to defeat Bill C-391

OTTAWA - Beginning today, the Young Liberals of Canada will be posting display ads calling out urban MPs for their hypocrisy on crime. The Conservatives and the NDP are taking steps to kill the National Gun Registry, which the Canadian Association of Police Chiefs says saves lives.
“Unlike Stephen Harper and Jack Layton, Michael Ignatieff's Liberals are the only ones committed to saving the gun registry and standing up with our front-line law officers,” said YLC President Samuel Lavoie. “The hypocrisy of Stephen Harper and these MPs plays a large part in why so many young Canadians are turned off by Canadian politics – in addition to the recently released picture with Harper and Chad from Nickelback.”
“The YLC believe the Canadian Association of Police Chiefs is not a “cult” – as one Conservative MP recently called them - but in fact serve Canadians day after day, working to keep us safe. We believe that if they tell us the National Gun Registry keeps us safe, they know better than these Conservative MPs.”
The ridings targeted by the gun registry posters will include Outremont, Trinity–Spadina, Toronto–Danforth, Thornhill, Mississauga–Erindale, Oak Ridges–Markham, North Vancouver, Richmond and Fleetwood–Port Kells – all which have MPs that are either voting in favour of killing the registry or refusing to insist upon party solidarity to maintain it.
The YLC hopes these ads will serve as a reminder that the gun registry keeps Canadians safe and that these MPs should not be let off the hook for putting Canadians in danger.
“Time and time again, we hear Conservative MPs parrot lines about being 'tough on crime,' but their failure to stand with Canada’s police chiefs and to protect the gun registry shows that Harper's Conservatives are frighteningly soft on gun crime,” said YLC Vice-President, Communications, Braeden Caley.
Local Young Liberals will be participating in these local campaigns leading up to the final vote on this Conservative Bill.
