Young Liberals take up the challenge of Climate Change in the absence of government leadership
2009-12-07
OTTAWA - A group of over 20 Canadian Young Liberals are going to the COP15 global negotiations on climate change to push for action to protect the planet.
“We will not simply hope for action on the part of today’s government leaders, we are already living with the consequences of inaction that will only worsen in the absence of committed leadership today,” said Elizabeth Dubois, the delegation coordinator.
Young Liberals have been organizing town halls across Canada to hear views from all Canadians on how to deal with climate change. They will bring those views to the COP15 conference in Copenhagen, and lobby through YOUNGO – the official UN Constituent body for Youth Organizations. They will also bring the COP15 back to the people of Canada via live-blogging, video-blogging, and twitter on their website: www.ylc-jlc.ca/copenhagen.aspx
“Young Liberals are determined to take action today to protect our futures, and are reaching out to every willing partner to build a prosperous and generous Canada in a safer world,” said Tom Chervinsky, Vice President External of the Young Liberals of Canada.
Delegates will be accredited through the International Federation of Liberal Youth and will participate in panels, presentations, negotiations, and lobbying during the two week conference.
